Well the end of the school year is near and it's time for all those fun concerts, ceremonies, activities, etc. One of the first we went to was a National awards Ceremony for Oldest's JROTC program on Friday May 8. The awards were sponsored by either National or local programs.
Each class is put into Flights and each Flight competes throughout the year by earning points for uniform dress days, attendance to class, activities, & service and also for behavior. Those points determine which Flight is the Honor Flight at the end of the year. Oldest's Flight, the Bravo Flight, had the most points accumulated throughout the year therefore they became the Honor Flight this year.
The entire unit also earned The Distinguished Unit Award With Merit, which is a National Award and it is the first time they have earned this award in the three years the unit has been formed. It was a nice evening and gave Oldest a chance to see all that he could be working towards. CONGRATS to ALL!
Oldest had a great time this year and we are proud of the things he has learned. His Colonel, Col. Whicker and SGTM Thomas have been an AWESOME example to him and we are greatly appreciative of their time and dedication to this GREAT program. I highly recommend it to any student who is/isn't interested in the military as a career. It teaches some great leadership and team building skills and is a chance for them to excel at something and grow at the same time. We look forward to the next 3 years and the opportunity to watch Oldest grow some more (not just in height).
